my new dog

Posted: 07/07/2013 in Uncategorized

might’ve forgot to mention

my new dog.

she don’t speak no bullshit,

so she don’t know what you’re sayin’,

no matter how sweet you say it.

might’ve forgot to mention

that you best not just come through the gate like that,

like you used to,

whistling and full of your damn self

on your own schedule and full of your own news.

might’ve forgot to mention

my new dog.

she bites who she don’t like,

and she only likes me.

you better clean up your leg,

but not here–

go home, cos i ain’t about to accept

your next damn apology.

I love the first line. I love all the lines, actually, but the casual throwaway malice aforethought in that opening slays me. O yeah, coal is BACK, (or as Elton sez,

the bitch is back/stone cold sober as a matter of fact.)

Wonderful close – the word next says it all. Wonderful voice, of course, and super clever. k.

  3. new dog…old lover…new dog…old lover… Hmmm… to choose, to choose!

  4. Yes, Coal has stepped both her feet out of retirement.

The matter-of-fact tidbits about your new dog, along with the venom tossed in a deserving direction, made for a wonderful combination. Wonderful for you and your dog…not wonderful for her, of course…

Ha! Love Hedge’s quote! Never understood why calling someone a dog is an insult…

  6. Mama Zen says:

    I just love the attitude!

  7. We suspect The Lovely Lindy can chew someone’s leg should she choose to chew it, but meanwhile she loves most people. She kissed a young man sitting on a sidewalk begging today. He looked perfectly clean and healthy and well-dressed despite his sign asking for spare change, so he just smiled when she licked his face.
Good to see you back, Ms Coal.
    Luv, K

  8. Now that Coal is a well trained dog!
Thanks for the visit hope all is well

It ain’t the watchdog’s job to parse and sift the gray for black and white–watchdog’s there to bite.
