moon poem

“The lunatic is in my head” –Pink Floyd

i’m a woman;

i can’t say no to the moon.

all those times she said, coal, just ten more drinks can’t hurt,

well, what’s a girl to do?

and i never meant to say those things

or do those things

to you.

i’m a woman;

and the moon whispers in my ear.

and many times she says, i’ve got another sweet idea, dear.

how can i tell her no?

here’s your masterpiece, and here’s my turpentine;

i’m sorry and i swear

it seemed like the thing to do at the time.

i’m a woman

and i can’t say no to the moon.

she helps me sing the blues to myself

when there’s nobody else in the room.

  1. The moon does exert a strange force on a woman. This song shows a more wistful side to Ms Black, and conveys some regret and some surrender to the inevitable.

  2. hedgewitch says:

    Women and wolfen, our teeth are definitely bared when Mistress Moon has her way with us–then she swamps us with tears and regrets. Or at least, it’s nice to have *something* to blame for all that.

  3. Mama Zen says:

    If men get to blame my hormones, I get to blame the moon!

  4. rosemary mint says:

    Love that Pink Floyd quote. Some of my favorite music.

    Great line: “here’s your masterpiece, and here’s my turpentine”

  5. Being Cancer (star sign) I am very influenced both by the pull of the moon and water. So, I can fully identify with this piece on many levels. Sometimes she drives me a little crazy too LOL

  6. Ruth says:

    I wonder what woman (wo-moon) can’t identify? well done, I like this poem a lot

    “i’m a woman;

    i can’t say no to the moon.”

    I feel the pull of her tides, as well. Related so much to this beautiful piece.

  11. The moon mess up a mind sho, eats good thoughts and turns em to pure adrenaline. Try as you might, you ain’t gonna make moonshine same as God, thats potent shit.

  12. lolamouse says:

    “Lunacy” used to be blamed on the moon. I think it should still be considered a fair defense! Love the Floyd too!

  13. Marion says:

    Love, love, love this. The moon, she drives me crazy every month. xo

  14. Ha ha, blame it on the moon! I like this line, “here’s your masterpiece, and here’s my turpentine” and fear you washed clean an oil painting?

  15. billy says:

    Favorite lines: “she helps me sing the blues to myself”… ““here’s your masterpiece, and here’s my turpentine”. Love your take, not really primal, it just has a groovy vibe.
