coneflowers

Posted: 07/05/2011 in house of love, house of women

i left my leather boots

in the closet like buddhas

and wore white heels to sally’s summer wedding.

in the morning,

one lay in the wet grass,

and the other in the deep green leaves of the coneflower plants

at the foot of your wooden steps.

This is lovely….without borders for me. Evokes numerous conclusions, queries, which I think is some of the best of poetry.

    This is hauntingly good.

yeah, well, if coal be leavin her boots in my coneflowers, they’ll be filed where the sun don’t shine.

Seriously–Lady Nyo did a good job in her analysis–this is full of innuendo and a dusky mood, and all the richer for it.

Every time I read your stuff I get the feeling of “Yes, this is it, this is real”. The embrace of brevity and the emotions that come up for me as a reader between the lines make this work so well.

  8. Brendan says:

What the first two said … leather boots, white heels, they end up walking the wild side and getting left behind at the door to true wilderness. Who needs ’em?

  9. love this. I will make a point of stopping back through here for sure.

  10. Brilliantly evocative and moving, its effects once again achieved with great perception and economy of language. Always a joy to visit. James.

This leaves itself open to some interesting possibilities!

  12. Claudia says:

love that you leave it open for different interpretations…so my mind goes wandering…love me a wedding and some white heels…smiles

  13. siubhan says:

gotta agree with others here that this says a lot with just a little…. you use just enough words to paint a few concrete images and leave the rest irresistibly to the imagination. love it.

  14. Phil says:

    Nice! Love it!

  15. dani says:

……………oh, sorry, i was off looking for whatever esle was dropped. LOVE the possibilities. ♥
