the joe earl saga

Posted: 06/21/2011 in house of change, house of music

my guitarist joe earl got religion one wednesday night.

onlyest thing he ever had a personal relationship with was cat miller,

down at the cue and dog,

but up he went, pointin’ at the ceiling like it were rainin double bacon burgers.

i said, joe earl, what made you do that?

he say, i felt the power of the almighty,

makin me all dizzy and swirly like,

and i knew i was on my way to a better place.

so,

(says me),

it were kinda like you were starrin’ in your own little goldfish funeral, then?

after that,

joe earl never was my friend like before, and even stopped tellin me to go fuck myself,

which, to be honest,

i really sort of miss sometimes.

It’s hard to lose those little endearments…but ya can’t blame the guy. You stomped all over his amour propre in your goth platform boots.

  2. I love it. You took me right there.

    Fun 🙂

  4. Nice one. I can smell the mens room around the corner, and look at that, there’s a sliver missing from my glass.

Nothing like religion to ruin a perfectly good friendship!

Like Tommy Chong once said, “I used to get high on drugs, now I get high on the Lord.” Serial addiction — the dope morphs but the song remains the same. Lord the addlements that line up on the road, the befuddlements friends endure as addictions conga-line another’s life. I used to get high on Cuervo and nekkid jezebels, now I get high on empty bottles and a wife — their absolute Other. Go figure. – Brendan

  8. A lot of fun this, I can see now why you enjoyed my ‘Nothing Happened’ piece! Loved the weird narrative feel…great write! 🙂

Aww damn, this was good. That’s how you set a tone. So much, with so little, yet so perfect. I want to say sorry you miss your friend, but man you earned that – lol. Excellent.

And with that the mourning of expletives. Like Coal, I feel a loss when my friends stop cussin’ at me.

An authentic voice carries through this piece…. I know people like that, and I’d miss being told to fuck myself, too. We come to expect things. Great piece.

Hard to be friends with someone who won’t have the decency to tell you to fuck yourself!
