in the frig’ door

there’s mayo.

gives it up easy at first

sweet and smooth

like it would never run out.

but at the end

got to work harder

just to get less–

so do i fight for the last bit

or toss it out with some still in?

you’re mayo, darlin,

an old sweet thing

all full of empty.

Though I love my mayo that shouldn’t, it does have that irritating quality. Even in the squeezy-bottles.

  2. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS is SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to rock it!!!!!

When I’m getting down to the bottom of the sauce bottle I store them upside down. All the stuff’s near the opening then. Good piece!

  4. Mama Zen says:

But, damn, can I dress up some tuna fish!

  5. Lisa says:

    “all full of empty”

    love that 🙂

Even if my fridge looked bleak and empty I’d rather throw it out than F-around trying to salvage what’s clinging to the bottom of the bottle. Not worth the effort.

I’ve missed you. And me too.

This is part wry, part exasperated, and part affectionate, and those are three disparate things that are tough to keep in balance–but balanced it is, and the writing is clean, crisp, and uncluttered.
